When Fallout 4 first launched, I wrote a post called ‘’ It turned out to be pretty popular, and I like to think it’s a good guide for players just starting out.But for truly new players? New to the entire series? I’ve come to realize it doesn’t go far enough. I’ve recommended the game to many of my friends, but the ones unfamiliar with Fallout have been asking me questions that are at a far more basic level than even what I discussed in that initial piece. So, Fallout veterans, you might laugh at some of this stuff, but these are real questions I’ve been asked by new players, or things they’ve been confused about.
Wasteland noobs, read on:1. VATSThe Question: “Why does shooting in this game suck so much, and why am I always out of ammo?”The Answer: Because for reasons unknown, Fallout 4 never actually introduces VATS to the player. On consoles, it’s the left bumper or L1.
It doesn’t stop time, but it slows it down, and allows you to aim at specific body parts of enemies. Headshots are usually best, but they’re often harder to hit. The higher the number, the higher your percent chance of hitting. Take high-likelihood shots to save your sparse ammo, as trying to play the game like a regular shooter all the time is a recipe to have a lot less fun.2.
Skill PerksThe Question: “Okay I’ve started maxing out the letters, when do I get perks?”The Answer: Again, this is poorly explained in the game, and has the potential to derail your entire playthrough if you’re not careful. Though I really like the functionality of the skill tree, knowing how to use it can be tough. I’ve seen players start maxing out specific SPECIAL attribute letters early, or even trying to max out ALL of them, because they don’t understand how the system works.
You have to look not just across, but up and down. If you are level 10 Strength, for instance, that means you have access to at least the first level in ALL TEN perks under Strength. Usually after putting in one point, you will have to wait to level higher before you can do another, but with high numbers in specific letters, you can unlock great perks early. Do NOT focus on maxing the letter value alone.
That will help you incrementally, but the point of doing that is to unlock the perks underneath. You may already have a ton unlocked you didn’t even realize.3. Base-BuildingThe Question: “Why can’t I build this damn bed?”The Answer: This was so confusing that this is a question I actually asked when I first started. One of the first building missions in the game is to build a bed for your Sanctuary settlement.
It tells you to go to the workshop, and select a bed. I did, but I didn’t understand how to play it anywhere. I couldn’t select it. The answer turned out to be that even hovering over an object means you’re about to build it, if you have the right qualifications and part. The problem was that the bed I was trying to build was stuck inside the wall behind the workbench, and I couldn’t even see it. I didn’t understand that I had to move around and place it manually, and that it was already selected and ready to be built.

Since then, I’ve heard from many other players that they ran into the same problem.4. Map ExplorationThe Question: “Why can I never find these map icons?”The Answer: This is one of those questions that would have never even crossed my mind since I’ve been playing open world RPGs for so long. My friend kept asking how I found the “man” in the first town, and I eventually realized he was referring to the Minuteman logo that marked the subdivision of Sanctuary. He thought that the icons that appear on the map were referencing specific people or objects that he was supposed to find there, and was confused when he’d get there, and the symbol would just keep spinning around on his compass. Those icons represent general areas, specific objects or people will be marked with a much simpler indicator that’s a box with a line under it.5.
Fast TravelThe Question: “Why does it take so long to get anywhere in this game?”The Answer: The existence of fast travel is mostly brushed over in this game, even if a tooltip about it may appear for a few seconds at one point. If you’re not using it, chances are exploring the Wasteland can feel exhausting. Any location you’ve found on the map, meaning it’s marked with a filled-in icon, you can travel to.
Skyrim wolf armor retexture. Oct 16, 2013 Game: Skyrim. When logged in. High-quality, high-resolution, handmade texture replacer for the wolf armor set, skyforge weapons, including bow arrows and hammers, Wuuthrad, shield of Ysgramor. AMidianBorn wolf armor and skyforge weapons.
Often, the game will have you traveling far away to places you haven’t been to yet, but once you’re there, you can go back and forth by selecting the icon on the map and saying you want to fast travel there. This works for any discoverable location, not just bases, but you can’t travel when indoors or when enemies are actively pursuing you. It’s always a good idea when exploring to find new places on the way to your final destination, as if you die or get sidetracked, you can fast travel back to them and shorten your journey. HealingThe Question: “I’m always hurt and have no healing supplies.”The Answer: If you’re a new player trying to heal always by just using supplies, you’re going to have a bad time. One of the game’s most useful systems it that when you sleep, ie. Activate a bed, you instantly heal everything but radiation damage, even if you’re only down for an hour.
Settlements are the best places to find beds, but they can be found anywhere. Even if you’re in the middle of a raider camp, so long as any enemies aren’t after you, you can catch a quick healing nap on of their beds to heal up. This really helps to conserve your Stimpacks for when you need them the most.7. LimbsThe Question: “Why can’t I see straight, shoot straight, or walk fast?”The Answer: Sometimes if you take a ton of damage, you’ll see a little Pip-Boy man with injuries appear on the right side of your screen, depending on what he has bandaged, that’s a limb you have crippled. A cracked head will blur your vision, a broken arm will make it harder to aim, and a broken leg will slow you down. The only way to heal broke limbs is to use a Stimpack or go to a town doctor.
Sleeping and regular food won’t do the trick. If you’re super slow and don’t have a broken leg? You are probably carrying too much weight, and will have to drop some stuff. Which leads me to8. StorageThe Question: “Why can’t I hold all this crap?”The Answer: It is not immediately apparent that your entire base acts as one giant, unlimited storage bin.
In Fallout 3, I remember having a bottomless chest I put pretty much all my crap into, but here, at any workbench, you can store items that you can access later from that location, and they’re shared across all benches in the area. And anything classified as “junk” can be insta-stored with a single button press, triangle or Y. All that crap you find in the wild may seem useless, but it’s what you’ll need to upgrade items later on, and it’s a lot easier to collect and store than it would initially appear.9. ArmorThe Question: “Why does my armor keep equipping and unequipping?”The Answer: Armor is kind of complicated in Fallout 4. There are a few different kinds, and some of them overlap with each other. The basic structure of armor is left and right legs, left and right arms, a chestpiece, a helmet, and an undersuit like your Vault suit or things like “raider leathers.” Sometimes, you will find a cool set of armor (Tower Tom’s Spike Armor is an early one you might find), but it will take over ALL the pieces of your armor, and often result in a net defense decrease. Look at the highlighted parts of your Pip-Boy armor guy when selecting armor to see what will be replaced.
And all of this is separate from Power Armor, which functions as a kind of Iron Man suit, and can be worn over whatever you’re currently wearing. Even now, I don’t have the entire system figured out. After 100 hours of gameplay, I just found something called “Super Mutant Chains” which is completely invisible on my character and doesn’t take up any other slot, despite adding defense. As I said, it’s complicated.10. Lost CompanionsThe Question: “How do I find once I’ve dismissed them?”The Answer: I struggled with this too.
Mount and blade voice commands. Jul 10, 2014 But I felt the other other version of this was a little under loved, some commands were not right, there were too many and most importantly there was not a version for Napoleonic Wars. This is not a mod per-se, but more a guide and compilation of software in order to use your voice to command your valiant troops on the field of battle. Dec 29, 2016 14. Basic Field and Seige Battle Tactics - Mount and Blade Warband New Player Guide - Duration: 11:53. XBeau Gaming 134,736 views. PSA: You can use voice commands to order your army in Mount and Blade: Warband submitted 2. Going through the options menu I noticed there was an option for using voice commands. I immediately started a custom battle to test it out and it works. It really helps. Also, using commands can really change the tide of a losing battle in your favor.
There are a few answers, depending on the situation. If you’ve dismissed someone and can’t remember where they went, chances are they will auto-default back to wherever you found them, ie. MacReady at the Third Rail, Curie at Vault 81, and so on. If you know where they were sent, but can’t find them, build a bell.
It will summon everyone in your settlement so you can easily locate them. Works great for a big place like Sanctuary. Unfortunately, this won’t work with Dogmeat, who I lost for fifty hours at one point. Turns out he was hiding in one of the doghouses in Sanctuary, doghouses I didn’t even know existed. I deleted those from the map, and built my own by the central base building, and now he’s there every single time I come back.Any other basic questions?
There are no dumb questions, especially when it comes to Fallout 4, which seems to enjoy not explaining things.Follow me,. Pick up my sci-fi novels, and, which are now in print and online. Why do people still love The Walking Dead?

If you give them another weapon and have them equip it - they'll need consume ammo to keep using. If you don't want them wasting ammo, make them trade it back to you. They can also grab ammo on their own if they are carrying the right weapons. Sell unwanted ammo to buy ammo you need!

Places like military forts and bunkers, as well as law enforcement buildings will no doubt have security lockers filled with weapons and ammo. Fallout 4 has a lot of deep elements that allow players to survive and build their character exactly how they like. One of these features is the Perk system, each perk gives you unique stats to make your character stronger. Of course, all perks are worth getting but some are much better than others. Here’s a list of the 10 best perks in Fallout 4, as well as how to get them!10. Fortune FinderThis is a simple perk that is definitely worth obtaining as soon as possible. It grants you extra Bottle Caps from containers but, when it’s fully upgraded in the Luck skill tree, enemies will sometimes explode into a pile of caps too. You can never have too many caps, they’re great for getting shipments of items you need for your settlements or simply buying weapons and ammunition.9.
RicochetWith this perk, there’s a chance a bullet fired at you will ricochet back and kill the attacker. This chance increases the lower your health is and at max rank, if ricochet occurs, you’ll also fill your critical meter. This perk is the best on tanky or melee characters but is a great perk to have on any character build. You do need to have 10 stats in Luck though, which you may not want to do, this is why it’s so high on the list.8. Close to MetalClose to Metal is obtained by reaching maximum affection with Nick Valentine as a companion, it stays with you regardless of whether Nick is your active companion or not. It gives you an extra try when hacking terminals and also reduces the lock-out time by half. No matter your character build, this perk is amazing as hacking terminals is always a good choice.
They usually contain secret tips, quests or just security control.7. Small GunsNot everyone uses ballistic weapons on their character, some are melee or like sticking with lasers.
Either way, you will end up using ballistic weapons at some point so when you do, this Bobblehead is perfect. It gives you 25% extra critical damage with said weapons which is incredible if you use ballistic weapons often and useful anyway if you don’t. The Bobblehead is found in Gunner’s Plaza6. Know Your EnemyThis perk grants you 20% more damage against super mutants, ghouls and synths. These are some of the most common enemies in the Commonwealth so obtaining this perk will improve your playthrough drastically. You do have to reach maximum affinity with Paladin Danse though, so it’s not the easiest to obtain.5.
Better CriticalsBetter Criticals makes it return from previous Fallout games, you need to level your Luck SPECIAL stat to obtain it but when you do, your crits will be 1 shotting everything. The first rank gives 50% more critical damage, then 100% and the last rank gives a massive 250% more damage. Quick note though, this only works for VATS criticals, not sneak bonuses.4. Live & LoveThere’s actually 9 magazines but I’ll stick them all together as they’re all so good. Each magazine grants a perk. These perks boost your companion’s stats like damage, resistances and carry weight.
You also gain extra XP when persuading people and a bonus 5% to everything with a companion. It’s just a general set of perks to have, make sure you get these whenever you see them.3. KillshotEarned by reaching max affinity with MacCready while he’s your companion, Killshot is undoubtedly one of the best perks in the game. It grants a bonus to your head-shot damage in VATS, they already do a lot of damage so having this means less AP, ammo and time spent trying to kill one enemy.2. UnstoppablesAnother magazine set, these perks are absolutely life-saving and definitely needed on literally any character. There are a total of 5 magazines and each one gives you a 1% chance to completely dodge an attack and take no damage.
So if you collect all 5, you’ll have a 5% chance which is incredible. All 5 are available in the South side of the map at Hubris Comics, D.B Technical High School, Shaw High School, Suffolk County Charter School and Westing Estate.1. Wasteland Survival GuideYet another magazine set, the Wasteland Survival Guide is all-round the best perk set in the game.
They all grant a nice bonus to different aspects, from extra health and better prices for/from items, to faster swim speed and extra looting. One of the guides even permanently marks Diamond City on your map which will help a lot in determining your direction. Overall these perks are way too useful not to put first.

It's worth noting that the Scrapper perk will highlight objects and containers that hold those materials in the world, making it harder to miss lootable objects that have the material you're looking for. Eventually I just marked every material except wood and plastic (for aesthetic reasons) so that nearly everything that contains loot highlights for me. (The exception is cupboards and things that only hold medicines, drugs, and ammo; only something with some kind of building material will highlight.)–Dec 4 '15 at 16:18.
